Including the world's tallest buildings: the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
At 1,483 feet, the Petronas Towers are the defining architectural icon of Malaysia's capital city. The towers showcase a sophisticated structural system that provides from 14,000 to 22,000 square feet of column-free office space per floor. The base features a concert hall and shopping center. Tens of thousands of people enter and leave the towers every day, and the buildings have become the obvious center of business and culture in the city.
Protecting and operating these mammoth spires is no mean feat. That's why both towers use fire alarm and building control systems designed, supplied, installed and maintained by Tyco Fire & Security.
The fire alarm systems use our command center software and incorporate 182 fire alarm panels, 8,100 addressable detection points, 881 intercom telephones, 2,590 xenon flashing strobe lights, more than 2,700 speakers and other equipment integrated throughout the towers and their underground levels.
The building operations systems include servers, workstations, 72 network operating system controllers, 400 lighting controllers, 600 variable air volume box controllers and 200 air handling unit controllers.
In sheer scale and also in complexity, few companies could even attempt such systems, much less execute them successfully. But the multinational joint ventures behind the towers knew that they could trust Tyco Fire & Security to do the job when it counted.
