Tyco Fire & Security Photoelectric Detectors and Sensors Remediation Program

The Company identified an issue with a manufacturing process that may impact the performance of some of the above subject products. Under specific conditions of high heat and high humidity, the sensitivity of the device may be affected. Product potentially affected includes shipments from August 1st 2004 to December 17th 2005.

The manufacturing process has been corrected and all products shipped on or after December 17, 2005 are not affected. Strict testing protocols are in place to ensure that the manufacturing of our products meets required operational and quality standards.

Tyco Fire & Security voluntarily approached the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and has been actively working with that organization to address the issue.

The vast majority of products affected by this notice are "sensors". Under our remediation program, these sensors will be automatically and continuously monitored with new diagnostic software that Tyco will install in customer alarm panels at no charge. This will enable each panel to monitor the operation of sensors. Should the sensors be exposed to high heat and humidity and the sensor experiences a decrease in sensitivity, the panel will alert the customer to signs of decreased sensitivity of specific devices. Any device found to be less sensitive will be replaced at no cost to the customer.

The balance of affected devices are "detectors". These devices are not designed to be monitored with the diagnostic software monitoring, so Tyco will be notifying all customers with affected detectors and replacing them at no charge. It is only under unusually hot and humid environmental conditions that these detectors may become less sensitive. These kinds of conditions do not typically occur inside a building with air-conditioning.

Tyco is committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity in its work as a worldwide leader in fire protection. We are taking this situation very seriously, and are making every effort to resolve it through a remediation program developed in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Remediation Program Information - All SimplexGrinnell, ADT and Ansul customers in the USA and Canada that have this product installed will be sent a letter alerting them of the situation and advising them that they will receive a call to schedule a service visit to install the diagnostic software or replace the detectors.

A dedicated customer support line has been established for any customer with specific enquiries regarding this matter. Please call toll-free at 1-866-376-8207 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
